Three NDP MPPs are calling on the provincial government to implement their Northern Highway Strategy and improve safety on Highways 11 and 17.

They are renewing their call following the latest push from the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) about the lack of progress on northern highway safety.

“Highways 11 and 17 are the lifelines of Northern Ontario; yet they remain some of the deadliest roads in the country,” said Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP Guy Bourgouin.

“When families are losing loved ones year after year to preventable crashes, the government’s inaction is not just unacceptable, it’s reckless. Northern lives should not be treated as expendable.
