CARMEL, Ind. — A dog was shot by officers while police were trying to get to a stabbing victim in Carmel Sunday morning.
The Carmel Police Department said officers received a "frantic 911 call" reporting a stabbing in the 500 block of East 111th Street , near North College Avenue, around 4:30 a.m. Aug. 31.
When officers arrived on scene, they said they heard someone inside the detached garage calling for help.
"In their urgent effort to reach the individual, who was thought to be in need of immediate medical attention, officers were confronted by an aggressive dog," Carmel Police said in a post on Facebook . "The dog was shot by officers, so they could safely access the person calling for help."
The Carmel Fire Department took the dog to an emergency veterinary clinic, however,
