Firefighters were called to a large building fire over the weekend. Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were called to a building fire on The Avenue, Godmanchester just before 8am yesterday (Sunday, August 31).

Firefighters arrived to a “large amount of smoke” coming from the building. It took crews several hours to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters believe the fire was deliberate. A fire spokesperson said: “On Sunday at 7.53am, crews were called to reports of a building fire on The Avenue, Godmanchester. Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a derelict building.

“Crews from Huntingdon , St Neots , Stanground, Chatteris , Ramsey and the turntable ladder appliance from Stanground attended. Firefighters arrived to find a large amount of smoke coming from the building.
