A University of Kentucky cheerleader is accused of dumping her newborn baby’s body in a garbage bag, then hiding the remains in her closet.

Laken Snelling, 21, was arrested Sunday after officers were called about an unresponsive baby at a home near the U of K’s Lexington campus. Officers found the deceased infant swaddled in a towel “inside of a black trash bag,” according to the police report.

The indictment said that Snelling “admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”

Snelling is a member of the university’s specialized STUNT cheerleading squad.

The young woman was confirmed to be the dead baby’s mother, police said.
