PHILIPSTOWN- A new radio tower to be constructed in the Village of Nelsonville will vastly improve emergency communications throughout western Putnam County.

The project results from an agreement hammered out between Putnam County, the Town of Philipstown and the Hudson Highlands Land Trust.

The two municipalities will be donating 17 parcels to the trust in exchange for being able to erect the tower at the Highway Department facility on Ridge Road.

The Open Space Institute holds a conservation easement on the property that restricts development. It is permitting the town and county to build the tower in exchange for donating the parcels for its 310-acre preserve.
