POUGHKEEPSIE – In an attempt to make motorists slow down in the vicinity of Poughkeepsie schools, the city authorized the installation of removable speed bumps, and DPW workers installed them last week. One of the locations for the new speed control devices is on Mansion Street in front of Sojourner Truth Elementary School (Morse Elementary). There is one just west of the school near the creek, and one is on the eastbound lane of traffic, just east of the light at Garden Street.
There is an annual increased risk of accidents during the first week that children return to school, with motorists forgetting about the return of school buses and children being dropped off in private vehicles near schools.
