LOS ANGELES—On August 28, at 7:00 a.m. Citizen reported the presence of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at 1609 Wilshire Boulevard near the Carecen Labor Center in Westlake. Federal agents deployed tear gas in an immigration sweep at S. Union Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard. At 11:32 a.m., eight undocumented immigrants were arrested, three of whom had criminal records. This is the third immigration sweep at this location. On August 27, ICE Los Angeles HSI Integrated Operations Group arrested Juan Lopez-Vasquez, 40. The Mexican National was charged with DUIs, Hit-and-Run resulting in property damage, and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse.
