Here is a look at the best in Greater Lansing from the opening week of the high school football regular season.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
▶ JAVARI FUNCHES, EVERETT: The Ferris State commit accounted for all of the Vikings' scoring in their 24-14 victory over rival Sexton. He finished with 283 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Funhes also had three pass break-ups and forced a fumble.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
▶ FOWLERVILLE: The Gladiators won a season opener for the first time since 2021 with their 39-14 victory over a Corunna program that has been a fixture in the playoffs in recent years and was one of the Flint Metro League's top teams in 2024. Fowlerville, which hasn't competed in the MHSAA playoffs since 2020, ended a three-game losing streak to Corunna with its win.
