TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - One of the constitutional amendments that Texans will have their say on later this year involves changes to what crimes judges can deny bail for.
If the constitutional amendment is approved by voters, judges would be able to deny bail to people accused of certain offenses punishable as a felony, including human trafficking, aggravated sexual assault, and indecency with a child.
“Those are some of our most vulnerable victims, children who’ve been sexually abused, and they often have their offender either in their home, or has access to their home,” said Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman. “For a judge to be able to lock those people who’ve been charged with those kinds of crimes up to protect those children is going to be a key ability for keeping those ki
