GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -— West Michigan has enjoyed pleasant conditions throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend and as a potential cherry on top of the nice weather, we may get a light show overnight courtesy of the Northern Lights.

The National Weather Service's Space Weather Prediction Center detected a strong flare from the sun on August 30th. The Kp Index, a measure of geomagnetic activity, is forecast to spike between a 6 and 7 on a scale of 0 to 9. This energy will present West Michigan with the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights beginning Monday night and continuing into early Tuesday morning.
