Lincoln readers chose a historical fiction, internationally bestselling novel set around the impact of the Vietnam War as the city’s 2025 One Book One Lincoln winner.

Voters chose “Dust Child” by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai from three finalists in the program’s 23rd year, according to a Monday announcement. The Lincoln City Libraries annual summer program is designed to encourage people in Lincoln and Lancaster County to read.

“Dust Child” is a story that follows two sisters throughout the Vietnam War and its aftermath. The sisters work at Saigon’s bars, earning money by spending time with American soldiers. The story jumps to a veteran seeking redemption and a man, the son of a Black American soldier and a Vietnamese woman, searching for a sense of belonging.
