YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - The Mahoning Valley is no stranger to the substance use disorder epidemic, but the Mahoning County Drug Court offers hope and redemption to its victims. Now, filmmaker Nancy Bannon is spending a year following those in the drug court -- from judge to participant -- to showcase their successes and struggles.
"This is an offering and a love letter to the City of Youngstown and to Mahoning County. This is my way of showing the world this kind of Midwestern, can-do, community-oriented, I-got-your-back spirit that I grew up with here," Bannon said.
She grew up in Youngstown, and is now a director and writer in Washington, D.C.
