SPOKANE, Wash. — A procession honoring the life of a fallen Montana wildland firefighter will travel through North Idaho and Spokane on Monday, Sept. 1.

Gonzales Romero died of a cardiac emergency while fighting the Bivens Creek Fire in southwest Montana on Sunday, August 24 .

Officials say Romero was a veteran wildland firefighter with over 20 years of experience and was on a crew with TJ Forestry Contracting LLC. He served primarily as a sawyer, a firefighter who fells and cuts trees and brush with a chainsaw.

Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 6 says the procession will begin in Whitehall, Montana at 12 p.m. and will travel along I-90 to conclude at a funeral home in Spokane.
