MONROE, Wash. — The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) hosted a concert for people incarcerated at the prison, and officials say it may have been the prison's first concert in 54 years.
The Washington State Department of Corrections posted on Facebook, saying the concert is a rare occurrence, and noted that many in attendance had not experienced live music in years.
Seattle rock band, The Black Tones, fronted by DJ Eva Walker, opened for Seattle musician Avron Jones, who performed original tracks and classic hits by artists like Prince and Jimi Hendrix.
Some artists incarcerated at the prison also had the opportunity to perform for their peers.
MCC officials say this may have been the first concert at the prison since the legendary Johnny Cash performed there in 1971.
