ANN ARBOR — Michigan will be without linebacker Jaishawn Barham, one of the team’s top defenders, in the first half at Oklahoma on Saturday.

Michigan, through the Big Ten, filed an appeal to the NCAA. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said Barham’s targeting suspension was upheld.

“It’s a rule we have to get changed,” Moore said Monday at his weekly news conference.

Moore said the appeal was filed through the Big Ten after the game and said Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti also disagreed with the call.

On the play, it appeared Barham sacked New Mexico quarterback Jack Layne, forcing a fumble that he returned 18 yards for a touchdown. After a review, Barham was called for targeting and ejected from the game.
