Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse had a season opener that Fran Brown is all too eager to forget about. He could be seen withholding his abhorrence for losing during his Monday press conference.

Brown thought his team was beaten in every facet of the game in its 45-26 loss to Tennessee and had to force himself to acknowledge the good things he saw on film.

Here’s what stood out from Brown’s weekly podium session.

Brown: Defense must ‘be willing to go hit’

The Orange had a tough time stopping the run in Saturday’s loss. Although Pro Football Focus gave Syracuse a grade of 71.8 in that area, there was room for improvement.

Getting to the ball and shedding blocks was an issue, and Brown isn’t happy with what he saw in real time or on film.
