KENNEBUNK, Maine — According to the FBI, one in 10 seniors will become a victim of an elder crime, but few will ever report it to police. Maine's first statewide elder justice investigator aims to change that picture in the state with the nation's oldest population.

Candice Simeoni of the Kennebunk Police Department will gather data, educate, and assist in investigating and addressing the rise in crimes targeting seniors.

Just a few weeks into her new job, and Simeoni is already helping with dozens of possible cases.

"Week one, I had seven cases from all around the state asking me for help," Simeoni said.
