Mandurah’s brand-new community hub has flung open its doors, with the multi-purpose building set to welcome a range of groups.
The Dawesville Community Centre on Woodstock Avenue was officially opened on Sunday and features a large communal hall, office spaces, a kitchen and function area, and playground and recreation areas.
The centre also received an Aboriginal name: Djilba-Wardarn Bo, meaning “the place where it is not far from the estuary to the ocean”.
It is one of many community spaces in Mandurah to have received dual naming as part of the City of Mandurah’s commitment to cultural recognition and reconciliation, acknowledging the significance of the Bindjareb people in the region.
The project was funded by the State Government ($6.237 million) and a $2.65m Lotterywest grant.
