CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) - Fall foliage in New England may arrive earlier this year due to a hot, humid, and dry summer that has stressed the trees.

The summer's weather conditions could affect the vibrancy of the fall colors and cause leaves to drop faster.

"Usually mid to late October is the peak here," said 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis. "I think it will be a little bit earlier, the colors won’t be as bright because it has been a hot, pretty dry summer."

Meteorological fall starts on September 1, while astronomical fall begins on September 22. Although meteorological fall does not directly affect the leaves, the start of cooler temperatures can eventually influence fall foliage.
