NILES — Students from Niles Middle School will participate in a two-day event promoting street safety today and Tuesday on the streets surrounding their school building.

Brian McConnell, the Niles Middle School dean of students, and Bianca Rozenblad, Niles city planner / grant coordinator, have planned events in partnership with Trumbull County Public Health, Youngstown State University and Creating Healthy Communities.

The events intend to promote bike and street safety while simultaneously creating an opportunity to receive state grants for the city’s’ safety infrastructure projects.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., today students will be painting crosswalks on Second, Third and Brown Street with the Niles school colors, red and blue, as well as the school’s mascot, a dragon. The painted areas
