BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (WSIL) -- Authorities are seeking assistance after a body was discovered in the Black River in Butler County.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said the body of Antonio Atkins was found floating in the river on Sunday afternoon. Akers noted the body was badly decomposed but showed no obvious injuries. Atkins was fully clothed, and his personal belongings were intact.

Akers reported that Atkins led a homeless lifestyle. The coroner's office has identified him and notified a next of kin, but they are still looking for more information as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have known Atkins, been aware of where he was staying, or seen him in the past week to contact them at 573-686-7884.
