PHOENIX — Two defendants have been convicted for their involvement in a robbery that resulted in the deaths of two people at a south Phoenix residence nearly two decades ago.

Clarissa Saunders, 33, and Rahmon Brown, 27, were shot to death on Aug. 13, 2006 after two armed robbers broke into a residence near 24th Street and Roeser Road, according to Phoenix police.

The case went unsolved for many years until Phoenix police arrested Johnny Maxwell and Johnny Herron in 2024.

Court records show Herron and Maxwell were each sentenced earlier this year in Maricopa County Superior Court for their involvement in the case.

Maxwell was sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of the amended charge of manslaughter. His projected release date from prison is May 2040.
