MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - WMTV 15 News’ Camberyn Kelley sat down with Dr. Joe Gothard for a one-on-one interview as he prepares for his second full school year as superintendent.

“It’s been exciting. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but it’s also been a reunion of sorts as well,” Dr. Gothard said.

He wants to continue to help students set strong reading goals after the district launched its ‘Mad for Reading’ campaign in 2024.

“Literacy scores for Madison are hovering right around that 50 percent proficiency for all students when measured on our Forward exam but we know the big picture doesn’t always shed light on some of the groups and individuals who are struggling within literacy,” the superintendent said.
