Alabama has reported its first case of measles in 23 years, prompting local healthcare providers to take action. Kids Cove Pediatrics is offering early vaccinations to help prevent the spread of this highly contagious virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) describes measles as a deadly virus that can hospitalize one out of five infected individuals. The MMR vaccine, typically given at 12 months and again at four years old, is 97% effective after the second dose.
Dr. Rhonda Graham, owner of Kids Cove Pediatrics, said, "I think that getting it early is definitely going to close the window of vulnerability for those kids that are at higher risk or can’t get the vaccines yet."
