When Jovana Vucekvic found out she was accepted into the very first class of Toronto Metropolitan University's (TMU) medical school, she drove straight to the Brampton campus as the news sunk in.
"The feeling was truly surreal," she said.
But the real work begins on Tuesday, when she'll return to the building with her classmates for their very first day of school.
The medical school in Brampton is the first to open in the GTA in over one hundred years and was designed to help address the shortage of family doctors in the area as its population booms with newcomers and young families.
"I really want to give back to those people who might not feel like they understand the system yet. They might not feel Canadian enough. They might not feel like they belong," Vucekvic told CBC's Metro Mor
