ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (KTIV) - Police in a Northwest Iowa city say they’re now investigating a possible “swatting” call that came in Monday afternoon in that community.
Estherville Police say just before 4:30 P.M. Monday an unknown person called in a report of a double homicide at a home on North 15th Street in Estherville.
Responding officers and Emmet County Sheriff’s deputies quickly determined that report was false, and no murders had taken place.
Estherville Police Chief Brent Shatto says this call put his officers and the public in danger, and his department is working with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify and charge the caller.
