IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Hawkeyes are honoring 9-year-old Nolan Stevenson of Ottumwa as the first Hawkeye Kid Captain of the football season. The Kid Captain program aims to recognize the patients, doctors, nurses, and staff of the Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Doctors had to amputate Stevenson's leg at the age of 6 following a UTV accident on the family's farm. He now uses a prosthetic leg and has recently received a new robotic knee. This advanced device helps track and monitor his movement.

Despite being a dedicated Cyclone fan, Stevenson said he enjoyed the opportunity to visit Kinnick Stadium and run onto the field with other kid captains.
