AUSTIN, Texas — Hundreds of new laws took effect in Texas on Sept. 1 , covering topics from education to crime. Three of the major laws that took effect are Senate Bill 10, Senate Bill 12 and House Bill 46.
SB-12 will expand the ban on diversity, equity and inclusion policies in K-12 schools. The bill also requires annual parental consent for routine school-based health services.
"The bottom line on this one is if you do not consent to the school nurse providing health services for your child, the nurse cannot provide any form of medical care unless it's a life-threatening emergency," Emily Parks, Director of Communication at Midway ISD, told 6 News.
