In a brutal seventh inning Monday at Petco Park the Padres lost one of their top relievers, before giving up the go-ahead run in their 4-3 loss to Baltimore.
Jason Adam fell to the mound and grabbed for his left knee after attempting to field a chopper hit towards the mound by Gunnar Henderson. Adam was taken off on a cart after suffering a quad tendon rupture. Mike Shildt said Adam will have further testing done.
"This guy since he came last year has been a big part of our success," Shildt said after the game. "This guy is an absolute workhorse... he means a lot to us and we'll be praying with him and for him. We're gonna miss him."
