BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - On September 2, 1985, teachers in Colchester rejected the school board’s contract offer and voted to go on strike.

That walk-out would last four days - nothing compared to the strike in Hinesburg earlier in 1985 that lasted a record 87 days.

One year later, another strike was looming on this day in South Burlington.

The union and school board reached a last-minute deal, and teachers were back in the classroom and on the sports fields that day.
