PORTSMOUTH — The City Council is likely to vote Sept. 8 whether to ask voters in November if they want to allow designated outdoor drinking areas known as social districts in the city.
Mayor Deaglan McEachern confirmed the council will discuss the issue and could vote to put it on the ballot.
A social district is defined as an “outdoor area in which a person may consume alcoholic beverages sold by a licensee,” according to House Bill 467 , which was passed by the New Hampshire state Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Kelly Ayotte in July.
