Potatoes will keep fresher for longer if you avoid one common storage error
The season has arrived for cosy stews, roast dinners and hearty soups - meaning potatoes are top of the shopping list for many home chefs. However, keeping them from sprouting too soon can be a tricky task if you're not clued up on proper storage techniques.
Karen Lamar, a storage expert from Organic Cottonmart, has shed light on one of the most common mistakes people make - storing potatoes on the kitchen counter or cupboard alongside certain vegetables.
She clarified: "When it comes to long-term storage, onions and potatoes outlast many others. So, why not just store them together in the same place?
"Well, that might not exactly work because onions release ethylene gas, which causes potatoes to sprout."
