EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Madisonville Police Department officials say a man is in jail on theft charges after he was caught stealing someone’s phone while they were at a liquor store.

According to a press release, officers were dispatched to the Beer, Wine, and Liquor Outlet in reference to a theft complaint on Sunday.

Officials say they spoke to the manager of the store who showed the surveillance footage of the suspect, later identified as Robert Torain, stealing the victim’s iPhone 12, which was sitting on top of the ATM. He then proceeded to leave the store.

The manager called the phone several times. They spoke with Torain at one point before the phone was shut off.

Officials say Find My Phone was used to locate Torain and the manager asked him to give them the phone back.
