BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont City Council will consider tax incentives Tuesday for the new owners of the historic Gilbert Building who plan to spend between $4 million and $6 million to restore the fire-damaged structure.

Businessmen Chris Richardson and Rob Fuselier purchased the property from Tom Flanagan last month and intend to create a mix of retail and commercial space in the building, according to the city council's agenda.

The city will consider several economic incentives, including tax abatements under the Neighborhood Empowerment Zone program. Under this program, taxes would be locked in at the current property value for seven years.

Council will also review waivers on building fees and an expedited permit review process for the project.
