CHICAGO — Gov. JB Pritzker on Tuesday warned Chicago residents to brace for an immigration crackdown targeting Mexican Independence Day celebrations, saying federal agents are expected to arrive this week.
“Know your rights, film things that you see happening in your neighborhoods and your streets and share them with the news media. Authoritarians thrive on your silence. Be loud for America. … I refuse to pretend that any of this is normal,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker joined Mayor Brandon Johnson and other leaders Tuesday to warn residents of what they have learned so far about President Donald Trump’s intentions to send federal agents and troops to Chicago.
