BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bath Area Family YMCA and General Dynamics Bath Iron Works held a ceremony Tuesday morning to mark the official opening of a new child care center designed to serve shipbuilders and families in the region.

The Early Learning Center, located at 6 Farley Road in Brunswick's Cook’s Corner, was made possible through a partnership among the YMCA, the U.S. Navy, and Bath Iron Works, with strong support from Maine’s congressional delegation. The facility will eventually provide 120 child care spots for BIW employees, with additional space available to the wider community, the organizations said.

Its first full day of classes is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3.
