(FOX 5/KUSI) — A woman's body was found more than 12 hours after she may have been struck during a hit-and-run crash between two vehicles early Saturday morning.

San Diego police said the crash happened on Sea World Drive near West Mission Bay Drive around 12:20 a.m.

Officers who responded discovered that one of the drivers fled on foot after rear-ending another vehicle, pushing it off the roadway.

Both vehicles were still at the site when officers responded, and the roadway was cleared at about 2 a.m.

Around 1 p.m. that same day, police were called back to the area after a report of a person's body being found.

Police said the woman found dead was 61 years old and was likely a victim of the earlier crash, although officers at the time did not know that she was nearby.
