SPRINGFIELD – Councillors in the Rural Municipality of Springfield improperly claimed roughly $3,000 in travel expenses over a nine-month period, violating the municipality’s own bylaw, according to Manitoba’s Auditor General.

The findings were part of an August 2025 report to the Legislative Assembly, which examined governance and financial practices in several rural municipalities across the province. The report concluded Springfield councillors had been reimbursed for ineligible travel claims between January and October 2022, contrary to Bylaw #19-02, which sets out rules for council compensation.
