A 19-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged following a police investigation into animal abuse that led to the rescue of three cats.

Police said the case began in June when the Winnipeg Humane Society’s Animal Protection Services learned the man had sought medical treatment for injuries caused by an animal in his care. Their investigation uncovered allegations that he had committed sexual acts on the animals.

On June 13, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit, along with General Patrol and Animal Protection officers, searched the man’s home. Two adult cats and a kitten were removed and later examined by veterinarians before being placed in shelter care.
