SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — University of Utah (U of U) students are petitioning against the school's new course scheduling.

U of U Provost, Mitzi Montoya, shared in an article that starting Fall 2026, "no more than 30% of classes should be scheduled during primetime on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and no more than 30% during primetime on Tuesday/Thursday. At least 40% of courses must be scheduled outside of primetime hours."

Provost Montoya stated that the changes will improve space issues, decrease student debt, and allow for more flexibility.

The decision quickly sparked debate, leading to hundreds of social media comments arguing against the schedule modifications and a Change.org petition to reverse the change.
