NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police Tuesday identified one of the two people killed after their vehicle struck a tree and caught fire early Sunday morning.
The man was identified as 40-year-old Nicky Perez, who police believe was driving the vehicle when it struck a tree and erupted into flames near the intersection of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Adeline Street around 2:50 a.m.
He was transported to a hospital by a private vehicle and later died from his injuries, according to police.
A female found dead in the rear of the vehicle has also been tentatively identified, but police say they're waiting for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm a few things before announcing her name.
