SAINT PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed Tuesday that he plans to call a special session on gun control, saying that “over the next day or two,” he and his team will be making calls and putting out a proposed package of legislation.

The news comes after sources within Walz’s team indicated Friday that he’d been calling DFL lawmakers about a possible special session to push through gun legislation in the wake of last week’s shooting at Annunciation Church and School.

Party leaders within the DFL called publicly for an outright assault weapons ban last week. Walz seemed to be in lockstep with their goal.
