(WJET/WFXP) – Pennsylvania police are offering a reward to anyone who can provide information regarding a homicide case dating back nearly 50 years.

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Erie station is continuing their investigation regarding the death of 23-year-old Karen Marie Hufnagel in 1977.

According to police, on April 13, 1977, a fire was reported at Hufnagel’s mobile home on State Route 99 around 10:10 p.m.

When the Edinboro Fire Department arrived on the scene, they discovered Hufnagel unconscious but breathing in her front yard.

First responders on scene then discovered that Hufnagel had a gunshot wound to the head.

Hufnagel was pronounced dead at 10:53 p.m. that same night at Saint Vincent Hospital.
