A cold front is on its way to eastern South Dakota, with cooler temperatures expected across the region starting Sept. 3, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.
"The front will usher in a stretch of more fall-like temperatures," said the National Weather Service, which is predicting afternoon highs in the 60s and 70s and morning lows in the 40s between Sept. 3 and Sept. 8.
Anyone with cold-sensitive plants should watch the low temperatures because readings in the upper 30s are possible Sept. 3 and Sept. 5, though widespread frost is not likely, according to the weather service.
The approaching cold front will also bring smoke from Canadian wildfires to parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen.
