The little archway beneath Piccadilly Railway station hints at a lost past.

It has long been shuttered up and plastered with posters. But during the 1890s it was an antique store and then a bustling tobacco and sweet shop in the 1950s. It was last used as a bookmakers.

Years later, the shop - below the Station Approach bridge - remains an abandoned eyesore.

Network Rail owns the building and had grand plans to bring it back into use with a £50,000 project to restore the shop's façade, as Lee Grimsditch and Paul Britton report.
