SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) - A Shawnee K9 returned to the police force a month after the department said a suspect stabbed the dog.

Veterinarians at Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty cleared K9 Dagger to return to full duty.

“The Shawnee Police Department thanks everyone who sent well wishes during his recovery! We appreciate your support,” the department shared in a social media update.

Dagger was injured during a call at a house on August 5.

The K9 and his handler responded to the house after a man with a knife barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender to officers.

The Shawnee Police Department said the man stabbed Dagger when officers and the K9 entered the home to take the suspect
