COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Colorado State Shooting Association (CSSA) has announced it is suing over a controversial gun bill passed earlier this year.

Senate Bill 25-003 requires more steps for Coloradans wanting to purchase certain semi-automatic firearms, by having them first apply for a permit through their local sheriff’s office, then, if approved, take gun courses through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The bill garnered both support and resentment from citizens prior to its passing last spring . The bill will go into effect Aug. 1, 2026.

The lawsuit seeks to overturn the bill on the grounds that the law’s provisions are unconstitutional.

Ahead of Tuesday’s announcement, CSSA hinted it was planning legal action.
