LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Potter Park Zoo hosted a special conservation talk on Monday, highlighting one of the world’s most iconic endangered species: the cheetah.
The event, titled “25 Years of Speed and Survival,” was led by Mary Wykstra, a Michigan State University alum and founder of Action for Cheetahs in Kenya (ACK), a conservation group she established in 2000.
The organization’s mission is to support the recovery of wild cheetah populations and conduct research to determine the most effective methods of species conservation.
ACK’s work includes a wide range of initiatives, from genetic studies to disease management.
One of their programs vaccinates and sterilizes local dogs in Kenya to prevent the spread of diseases to wild cheetahs.
