HERKIMER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- In the ongoing fight with the Village of Herkimer over their school resource officers, the Herkimer Central School District has provided an update, just two days before the school opens up for students.

According to a post on the District's Facebook page on Tuesday, September 2, Superintendent Kathleen Carney has said that both schools will have police officers patrolling the halls this school year.

Mayor Dana Sherry had said that the village would not fund resource officers from the village's police department in April. This decision came in spite of village-wide support for the program and an agreement to provide the program in February. Sherry cited the village's financial situation as the reason for the announcement.
