UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Monroe man tried his luck on a $3 Powerball ticket and won a $150,000 prize.
Edward Allen bought his lucky ticket from Rolling Hills Express on West Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe. His ticket matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in Saturday's drawing to win $50,000.
Because he bought a Power Play ticket, his prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit.
After required federal and state tax withholdings, Allen took home $107,626.
Wednesday’s Powerball drawing offers a $1.3 billion jackpot, or $589 million in cash. The jackpot ranks as the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the ninth-largest among U.S. lottery jackpots. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
